RCHS freshman and Mays resident Cassie Andrews is looking forward to future competitions on the ice.

Andrews and her ice skating partner Nicholas Anderson, of Franklin, Tenn., are preparing for upcoming competitions on the international level.

Andrews and Anderson recently competed in Central Ontario Summer Skate in Thornhill, Ontario, Canada. The pair earned both gold and silver medals for their efforts. The duo captured the short program title and placed second in the free skate.

To help finance their quest to participate in the 2010 Winter Olympics, a fundraising golf outing will be held Saturday at Horseshoe Bend Golf Course, 643 East CR 1200N. Tee time will be 9 a.m. for the best ball scramble.

Four member teams are still being sought for the event.

The $180 team entry fee also include a meal and door prizes.

Andrews will compete as a single in the Eastern Great Lakes Regional Championships Saturday and Sunday in Midland, Mich. That competition will be followed by a November pairs competition in Sugarland, Texas at the Midwestern Sectional Championships.

According to her father, Terry, his daughter hopes to qualify to compete in the 2009 United States National Championships that will be held in January in Cleveland, Ohio.

Individuals who would like to contribute but are unable to participate Saturday can mail donations to Cassie at 9049 North Benner Street, Mays, IN 46155.
