Several volunteer emergency responders recently gained in-class and hands-on training that is frequently put to use when their services are called upon: Emergency Vehicle Operating training.
Schroeder Insurance, McNeil & Company Insurance and Risk Services sponsored the one-day training that was held at the Manilla Volunteer Fire Station.
Thirty volunteers representing four area departments attended the informative instruction that consisted of four hours of classroom instruction followed by driving emergency equipment through a number of obstacles that tested individual driving skills.
Certified EVOC instructor Tom Champion conducted the seminar that also included updating volunteers on Indiana laws related to responding to emergency situations and how to evaluate the nature of an emergency.
Volunteer fire departments and volunteer medical responders are a vital and necessary part of preserving rural life and assisting rural residents in their moment of need.
