During the process of serving an arrest warrant Friday in the 10,000 block of North Carthage Pike officers from the Carthage Police Department and the Knightstown Police Department arrested two individuals on drug related charges: Brenda Michele Norfleet, 40, of Carthage, and Robert Franklin Fields Jr., 44, also of Carthage.
The active warrant for Robert Fields, 19, was out of Henry County for failure to appear on charge of possession of a controlled substance.
According to officers, when they converged on the residence at 10,739 North Carthage Pike they observed suspicious activity after announcing they were law enforcement officers.
A short time later, after entering the rural residence, they found more than they bargained for with the discovery of what were believed to be illegal drugs.
Officers called for assistance from the Knightstown PD and officer Derek Hall and his K9 partner responded to the scene. Following a search of the residence officers located nearly five pounds of what they described as marijuana and nearly 400 pills of prescription medication.
At the time of the discovery a minor child was also in the residence. Following a call to the Department of Protective Services the child was released to a family member.
Norfleet was charged with visiting a common nuisance and possession of marijuana. She was taken to the Rush County Jail and held on a $7,500 bond. Fields was charged with of neglect of a dependent child, dealing and or sale of a schedule IV drug, sale of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance. His bond was listed at $15,000.
Both Norfleet and Fields posted bail and were released Sunday. They will appear in Rush County court at a later date on the charges.
The continuing investigation also led to the arrest of the younger Robert Fields later the same evening.
Assisting the CPD and KPD at the scene were units from the Rush County Sheriff’s Department and the Rushville Police Department.

Waggener Pool opening Saturday and Sunday
