A 911 cell phone call to the Rush County Sheriff’s Department dispatch center at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday reported that two vehicles had just collided at the intersection of SR 3 and SR 244.
According to investigating officer deputy Dave Sliger of the Rush County Sheriff’s Department, a 1994 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Brandon Ressett, 23, of Madison, was northbound behind a vehicle when a westbound vehicle turned north from the westbound lane of SR 244. As Ressett neared the intersection, an eastbound 2006 Chrysler Pacifica driven by Julie Killingbeck, 62, of Kokomo, pulled in front of the Madison man.
“She just pulled out in front of me. I had nowhere to go. She said that she thought it was a four-way stop,” Ressett said as he waited to talk to Sliger and explain his side of the story.
Ressett and an unidentified passenger in his vehicle were uninjured and refused treatment at the scene. Killingbeck was also uninjured.
The collision caused extensive damage to the driver’s side wheel and axle of Ressett’s Blazer. Following impact the vehicle traveled nearly 50 yards before coming to rest on the east shoulder of the state road. The impact resulted in extensive front and passenger-side damage to Killingbeck’s Chrysler and caused the vehicle to spin 180 degrees before coming to rest facing west in the northbound lane of SR 3.
The investigation found that Ressett had no proof of financial responsibility and he was cited for operating a motor vehicle with no insurance.
