Driver dies as a result of injures in Friday accident

Donald F. Kobel, 50, of Carthage, the driver of a Yamaha scooter, died as a result of his injuries while en route to a Indianapolis trauma center Friday afternoon.

Kobel sustained serious head and facial injuries when his scooter collided head-on with a vehicle on a Carthage city street shortly before 2 p.m. Friday.

The investigation determined that Kobel disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of Log Street and South Main Street in the rural community, turned into the southbound lane of Main Street and into the path of a 2005 Hyundai driven by Jamie D. Davidson, 29, of Rushville.

According to investigating officer deputy Mark Click of the Rush County Sheriff’s Department, Davidson told the officer that it all happened so fast she could not avoid the collision.
