New F.I.T. walks announced

RUSHVILLE — The Fitness Initiative Team of Rush County is planning new F.I.T. Walkabouts to match the changing seasons.

Tuesday, Oct. 23, Rush County Surveyor Marvin Rees will lead a tour of the Rush County Courthouse at 5:30 p.m. You can learn more about this valued resource as well as get some exercise. Rees is guaranteed to share features that you generally don’t notice and some that you normally can’t view.

Celebrate an early All Hallow’s Eve with the F.I.T. Walkabout Tuesday, Oct. 30. Meet at 7:30 p.m. at the south end of Calvary Cemetery on Fort Wayne Road. Bring your flashlight for a different view of this familiar location.

Enjoy the fall leaves in two of Rushville’s attractive housing developments.

Wednesday, Oct. 24, meet at 5:30 p.m. for Rockin’ Rivercrest. Park at Riverpointe Suites, 210 E US Highway 52.

Thursday, Nov. 1, enjoy the leaves in Lawton Addition during a morning walk. This walkabout will start at 9 a.m. Park on Eric Lane just off of Lawton Circle.

Additional walks are being scheduled for November.

Walking outside may not always be possible during the coming months. Indoor walking in Rushville is available at the following locations: Rush County Courthouse, 7 to 8 a.m. and 4 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; Boys & Girls Club of Rush County, 6:30 to 8 a.m. Monday through Friday and 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday; Memorial Gymnasium, 6:30 to 8 a.m. Monday through Friday, 11:35 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 11:20 to 11:50 a.m. Wednesday.

The Fitness Initiative Team of Rush County is one of the action teams of the Partners for a Healthy Rush County, Rush County’s health coalition.

Their mission is to promote and encourage a more fit and active lifestyle for residents of Rush County of all ages.

The F.I.T. Walkabouts are scheduled walking opportunities at a variety of dates, times and places. There is no need to pre-register, just show up and take part.

The planning committee for the Fitness Initiative Team will next meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30 at the Boys & Girls Club. These meetings are open to the public.

The Partners for a Healthy Rush County will hold their next quarterly meeting at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Boys & Girls Club.

    The Local Coordinating Council (LCC) recently met Rush County’s new Community Corrections director Ashley Stevens.
    According to Stevens, Community Corrections is funded by the Indiana Department of Correction with aspirations that it will, in time, be self-funded.

  • FSA announces restart of America’s largest conservation program

    Julia A. Wickard, State Executive Director of USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Indiana announced FSA is currently conducting Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) signups for both general and continuous CRP. The General Signup began yesterday, May 20, 2013, and continues through June 14. Sign-up for continuous CRP began on May 13 and will continue through Sept. 30, 2013.

    During the most recent meeting of the Rush County Commissioners, Rush Count Sheriff Jeff Sherwood informed Bruce Levi, Mark Bacon and Ken Masters that the inmate population at the Rush County Jail continues to increase. According to Sherwood, 46 individuals are currently housed at the facility which is designed for 38 inmates.
