A robbery investigation that began shortly before midnight Jan. 28 came to a close with Friday’s arrest of James Michael Ramsey, 23, of Rushville.
Ramsey was taken into custody and charged with robbery without incident at the Rushville Police Department shortly before 10 a.m. His bond was listed as $60,000.
The events that led to Ramsey’s arrest began with a 911 call the evening of Jan. 28 and the report that a Rushville man had been beaten and robbed.
The investigation found that following the robbery the unidentified victim was able to drive to his nearby residence prior to contacting the police.
When officers arrived at the victim’s West Seventh Street residence they found the badly beaten local businessman had also been robbed of a significant amount of money.
Following treatment at the scene, the individual was transported to Rush Memorial Hospital. Due to the severity of and circumstances of his injuries officers were unable to obtain much information about the incident the evening of the altercation.
“I didn’t have much information to go on when I was called to the scene that night. Due to the victim’s injuries, the only thing we knew was that he had been beaten and robbed,” Detective Todd Click of the Rushville Police Department said.
Click continued by saying that initially it was unknown exactly where the altercation took place.
“The only thing we had to rely on that night was the physical evidence that was collected. I finally got a break in the case Saturday (Jan. 30) when I was able to obtain information on where the incident may have occurred and who may have been witnesses,” Click said Friday afternoon.
Following a number of interviews the officer was able to piece together what occurred the night of Jan. 28.
“The only thing I can say at this time about the incident is that it stemmed from an altercation that occurred at a local drinking establishment. As a result of my investigation I was able to make an arrest in this case,” the detective said.
“I think Todd (Click) did a outstanding job in this case. Initially there was very little to work with. It was just good old-fashioned police work that led to this arrest,” Chief of Police Ron Cameron said.
