RCHS Choirs perform Thursday

RUSHVILLE — The RCHS Choirs will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Laughlin Center for the Performing Arts.

The concert is free and the public is invited to attend. Come out and enjoy the music of RCHS’s five main choirs Thursday.

RCHS A Cappella Choir

The high school’s main choral ensemble, this group tours every other year and competes every spring in Division 1 ISSMA Organizational Contests. Comprised of juniors and seniors.

Madrigal Singers

A select group of juniors and seniors that performs mostly Renaissance music of the 16th and 17th centuries. This talented group focuses on a week of Madrigal Dinners performed in full costume at the Rush County Courthouse each December.

Treble Choir

Features sophomore girls and is a continuation of Freshman Girls’ Choir which focuses more on SSAA music while singing a cappella and in mixed formations.

Men’s Choir

Men’s Choir is an ensemble open to all interested freshman and sophomore boys which performs a repertoire of varying styles and time periods.

Freshman Girls’ Choir

Freshman Girls’ Choir is an ensemble open to all interested freshman girls which performs SSA repertoire of varying styles and time periods.

These five choirs are under the direction of Paul Grizzard.

Grizzard is in his seventh year as choir director at RCHS. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Music Performance from Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill. He completed his Music Education Licensure Track at the University of Massachusetts in Boston, and is now currently working on his Masters in Secondary Education from Ball State University.

Grizzard is excited and honored to be part of the strong choral tradition here in Rush County.

Teresa Fagan has served as the piano accompanist for the RCHS choirs for seven years, as well as serving as a music substitute teacher for the school corporation. She graduated from Kentucky Christian University and has taught piano lessons out of her home for 25 years.

The RCHS Choral Department performs several times throughout the year. Mark your calendars now and don’t miss these exciting and entertaining performances.

7:30 p.m. Oct. 11: Fall Concert (All Choirs)

Dec. 6 to 9: Madrigal Dinners (Madrigals)

7:30 p.m. Dec. 12: Winter Concert (All Choirs)

Jan. 12: Rush County Music Festival (Solos and Ensembles)

7:30 p.m. March 11: Spring Concert (All Choirs)

April 27: ISSMA Group Competition (A Cappella Choir)

7:30 p.m. May 11: Pops Concert (All Choirs)

    Rush County Chamber of Commerce Director Sandy Fussner has issued a statement following a recent meeting of the Rushville Common Council in which local parade organizer Sandra Coons said Fussner had “declared war” regarding the annual July 4 parade that Coons has organized the past several years.
