John Garau, 82

RUSHVILLE — John Garau, 82, of Martinsville and formerly of Rush County, passed away Oct. 13, 2012.

Born sept. 15, 1930 in Gary, he was the son of the late Raymond and Anna (Rosencrance) Garau.

He grew up in Rushville and was a 1949 graduate of Rushville High School. He was a loving and devoted husband to Dolores (Maxwell) Garau. They would have celebrated their 58th anniversary next month.

He was a wonderful father, grandfather and role model to his two children and five grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores; daughter, Denise (Jeff) Wardlow of Martinsville and their children, Ryan (Katie), Adam and Justin; son, Jerry (Molly) Garau of Indianapolis and their daughters, Annie and Caroline; and brother, David (Karen) Garau of Rushville.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Kerr, Sarah Oliver and Ardeth Parmer.

John was a member of Liberty Christian Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, including two years on Okinawa, before being honorably discharged in 1954.

John spent more than 31 years working for Westinghouse Corp. as an electrical engineeer. He also worked many years for Davee Appliances as a repairman. He retired from Westinghouse in 1990, but continued to provide the company and its successors with consulting services.

John was always just a phone call away for friends and family in need of a hand.

Services and visitation took place in Martinsville with Constin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Memorials requested to Liberty Christian Church, Martinsville.
