Dorothy Patterson, 95, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010 at Reid Hospital. Born Feb. 17, 1915 in Decatur County to Roy and Maggie Emsweller Vail, she had lived in Richmond since 1948. Dorothy was a graduate of Clarksburg High School and attended Indianapolis Business School. She retired from Sears as department manager after 17 years. Dorothy was a volunteer at Reid Hospital for many years. She enjoyed traveling with her family. Dorothy spent her winters at Bay Indies in Venice, Fla. during her retirement for 25 years. Survivors include her daughters, Judy Hodge (and her husband, Dr. Larry) of West Lafayette, Carolyn Crum, Nancy Cornett (and her husband, Roger), Dottie Kendall (and her husband, Mike), all of Richmond, and Debbie McGuire (and her husband, Bob) of Sebring, Fla.; son, Dr. Ronald Patterson (and his wife, Suzy) of Tampa, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Patterson, to whom she was married Aug. 16, 1932, and died in 2003; her parents; grandson, Gregory Maurice Hodge; two brothers; one sister; and son-in-law, Dr. Alan Crum. Visitation for Dorothy Patterson will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Doan and Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Phillip Hodgkin officiating. Entombment will be in the Earlham Memorial Mausoleum.
