Omer C. Fields, 81

RUSHVILLE — Omer C. Fields, 81, of Rushville, passed away at 8:56 AM Tuesday, January 24, 2012 in Rushville.  Omer was born September 20, 1930 in Fayette County, IN to Omer Roy Fields and Mary (Walker) Fields.  

     He was in the U.S. Navy serving on the USS WREN from May 1951-April 1955.  Omer was a builder of the A.O. Smith Silos from 1956-1963 in Southern Indiana and Ohio.  He served as a police officer at the Rushville Police Department from 1963-1983, where he was captain of the night shift.  After retiring from RPD he spent 16 years in the Rushville School system as a bus driver.  Omer also put the arial on the court house so that Christmas lights could be hung above the clock every year.  He was a member of Main Street Christian Church for several years, a member of the American Legion #150 in Rushville, and was a past President of Fraternal Order of Police.  

     He married Joann Bradley on December 23, 1951, she survives.  

     Other survivors include sons, Mark (Donette) Fields and Nick Fields, both of Rushville, half-sister, Ellen Cheek of Columbus, IN, grandchildren, Jason (Kristy) Fields, Ryan (Amanda) Fields both of Rushville and great granddaughters, Taylor Jeanne, Ava Jo and Alexis Michael.

     Services for Omer will be held at 10 AM Saturday, January 28, at Moster Mortuary, Rushville with Pastor Tim Williams presiding.  Friends may call at the mortuary from 4 until 8 PM Friday evening.  Burial will be in the Dale Cemetery in Connersville, where military honors will be presented by the Fayette County Veteran's Honor Guard.

     Memorial contributions may be made to the Main Street Christian Church.
