Donald “Doggie” Deiwert, 79

RUSHVILLE — Donald “Doggie” Deiwert, 79, of Clarksburg, passed away Jan. 26, 2013 at Morning Breeze with his loving wife by his side.

He was born Feb. 13, 1933 in rural Decatur County, the son of Floyd and Jessie (Granger) Deiwert.

Doggie was a 1953 graduate of Clarksburg High School where he participated in all the sports. After graduation he entered the United States Army where he did his basic training at Camp Chaffee, Ark. During his military career he was a helicopter mechanic. After leaving the army he went back home and worked with his father and brothers on the family farm, Sara Win Farms. He met Myrtle Halcomb in October 1962 where she was working at a restaurant. They were united in marriage March 6, 1971. Doggie retired from farming in 1997. After his retirement, Doggie found plenty to do. He was a fixture at the Clarksburg  Fire Department where he could be found every morning drinking  coffee with the other men. The other place you were guaranteed to see Doggie was at his grandsons’ sporting events. Doggie was a member of Clarksburg Christian Church.  

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle; his son, Donald “Dog” Deiwert and wife Rebecca (Bennett); his daughter, Kelly Clark and husband Dennis; two sisters, Mabel Canfield and husband Richard, Sarah Bougardus; a brother, Floyd Deiwert Jr. and wife Iris; a sister-in-law, Linda Deiwert; three grandsons, Dakota Deiwert, Nathan Deiwert and Logan Clark; and several nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and two brothers, John and Gale.  

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29 at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home, Greensburg. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013 at the Funeral Home. Rev. Jerran Jackson will be officiating. Burial will follow in Clarksburg Cemetery.
