Rowland Gerald Yeend, 82

RUSHVILLE — Rowland Gerald Yeend, 82, Rushville passed away on Nov. 9, 2012.

Born Feb. 18, 1930, in Walla Walla, Wash., to Rowland Averil Yeend and  Geraldine (McEvoy) Davis.  He married to Carole Houston Yeend on March 4, 1994.  Also surviving  are son, William Dale (Dale Marie) Yeend of Santa Clara, Calif.; daughters, Kim (Ron) Jones of Chambersburg, Pa., and Karen (Jim) McReynolds of Greensburg; step-sons, Steve (Susan) Houston and Marc Houston, Rushville; grandchildren, Jennifer Harter, Brian (Lauren) McReynolds, Justin McReynolds, Amber, Amanda, and Jordan Jones, Grant Houston; and five great-grandchildren.

A Korean War veteran, Yeend served in the United States Navy from 1947 to 1956 where he gained his knowledge of electronics. Upon leaving the service, he was employed by EG & G, a prime contractor to the Atomic Energy Commission  at the Nevada Test Site where he tested atomic weaponry. After moving to Indiana in 1968 he was employed in the Shelbyville plant of IPC and retired after 29 years as a senior mechanical design engineer for the same company now known as Freudenberg-NOK. His love of mechanical design continued into his retirement years and he spent a great deal of time at the computer. Rowland was also an avid woodworker and turned out many fine pieces of furniture.

Yeend was a member of  LasVegas Lodge No. 32, F. & A. M., and a former member of Indianapolis Scottish Rite and Indianapolis Murat Shrine.

In keeping with the simplicity that he so appreciated in life, Rowland  requested cremation and the remains committed to the sea from a U. S. Naval vessel departing from San Diego, Calif. A ceremony will be performed by the commander while the ship is deployed. The family will then be notified of the date, time, longitude and latitude once the committal service has been completed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Decatur County Hospice and the Rush Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Services entrusted to Moster Mortuary, Rushville.
