Morris D. (Tony) Miller, 84
Morris D. (Tony) Miller, 84, of Lakeland, Fla. and formerly of Clarksburg, died Dec. 1, 2009.
Born Sept. 6, 1925 in Clarksburg, he was the son of Raymond F. Miller and Susan Moore Miller, both deceased. He married Jean Wicker May 16, 1947; she survives.
Mr. Miller was a 1943 graduate of Clarksburg High School. He was inducted into the Navy six months after graduation. He attended radio school at Northwestern University and served on the U.S.S. Vammen for two years. His ship was involved in the invasion of Okinawa. After the war he returned to help his parents operate Miller’s General Store in Clarksburg. He drove a school bus for 32 years. He was a member of Clarksburg Christian Church and Havendale Christian Church of Auburndale, Fla.; Past Master of Clarksburg Masonic Lodge; Scottish Rite; Murat Temple; and Greensburg Country Club.
Survivors in addition to his wife include daughters, Nancy (Michael) Percifield of Largo, Fla. and Julie (Norio) Sugawara of Northville, Mich.; grandchildren, Tommy Sugawara, Michael Sugawara, Kristi (Jason) Hale and Trisha (Matt) Sorrells; and step grandchildren, Mark Percifield and Melinda Bernhardt; four great-great grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Clarksburg Christian Church with the Rev. Jerran Jackson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg.
