James A. Haley Sr., 84

RUSHVILLE — James A. Haley Sr., 84, a Lewisville/Raleigh (Rush County) resident since 1941, passed away Feb. 24, 2013 in Rushville.

He was born Nov. 2, 1928 in Kentucky to Ira Jackson and Glada (Feeback) Haley. Jim was a 1948 graduate of Raleigh High School. He married Carolyn Fry March 16, 1948.

Jim farmed his entire life in Rush and Henry counties. He had been a member of Raleigh Christian Church since 1956, serving as both Trustee and Deacon Emeritus. He had been a board member at REMC. He loved to do woodworking, enjoyed time with family and took great pride in his farm.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Lewisville; a son, James A. “Jay”  and wife Marsha Haley Jr. of Falmouth; a daughter, Josalyn and husband Tom Compton of Connersville; sisters, Lillian and husband Herman Cowan of Metamora, Louise Newton and Fay Doll, both of Rushville; grandchildren, Christy and husband David Sheehan, Bruce and wife Christy Angle, Scott Haley, Jason and wife Sue Haley, Jaymie and husband Laitham Louthen and Ashley and husband Shohn Busald; step grandchildren, Brad Gwinnup, Morgan and husband Donnie Ronan and Sean and wife Rita Compton; 10 great-grandchildren; and eight step great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by brothers, Charles and Ira; and sisters, Ruth Rumple, Sylvia “Doll” Provenzana, Margaret “Margie” Pea, JoAnn Turner and Patty Cowan.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville, with Tony Augsburger presiding. Friends are welcome to visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Raleigh Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
