Walter R. Manlief, 79


Walter R. Manlief, 79, of Morristown and formerly of New Palestine and Rush County, died Tuesday, June 17, 2008.

Born March 14, 1929 in Jennings County, he was the son of Everett and Cleonia (Morris) Manlief, both deceased. He married Dorothy Biddinger Aug. 20, 1950; she survives.

Mr. Manlief was a 1947 graduate of North Vernon High School. He spent his early life in Jennings County, lived in Rush County for several years, in New Palestine from 1984 to 2000 and in Morristown since 2000. He was a former Rush County farmer and had been a truck driver and owner/operator. He was a member of Flatrock Christian Church in Jennings County.

Survivors in addition to his wife include son, Gary Manlief of Arlington; daughter, Diana (Max) Gordon of Morristown; sister, Helen Speers of Greensburg; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Stephen, two brothers, one sister and a grandson.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Arlington Christian Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
