Irene (Hayton) Hermesch, 86, of Shelbyville, died July 2, 2009.

Born Sept. 24, 1922 in Mingo County, W.Va., she was the daughter of Anthony Wayne and Ida (Ward) Hayton, both deceased. She married Edgar F. Tomlin; he preceded her in death. She later married Forrest Hermesch Aug. 3, 1957; he preceded her in death Aug. 28, 1977.

Mrs. Hermesch’s family moved to Indiana in 1932. She worked at KCL from 1953 until retiring in 1988. She was a 1941 graduate of Holton High School in Ripley County. She was a member of Blue Ridge Christian Union Church and the Christian Union Women’s Fellowship.

Survivors include son, Kenneth Brad (Elaine) Tomlin of Edinburgh; step daughters, Nancy Larrison and Carolyn Galloway; sisters, Alice M. Corya of Butlerville and Zella Booth of Detroit, Mich.; grandchildren, Jaime, Kimberly and Ryan; and five great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by son, Edgar Wayne Tomlin; five brothers; and three sisters.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Freeman Family Funeral Home & Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel in Shelbyville with Pastor Dennis Hirschauer officiating. Burial will take place in Blue Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
