Extension Homemakers around the Hoosier state are celebrating 100 years of service. Each publication between now and the anniversary, April 7, 2013, we are featuring memories, stories and tributes to the many accomplishments and members involved throughout the years. Have you been a member or was a mother or grandmother a member in the past. Become involved again in making new memories by calling Gracie Marlatt at the Extension office at: 932-5974. The local celebration will begin at 2 p.m. April 7 at the Root Building at the Rush County Fairgrounds. Everyone is welcome.
Today, we’re pleased to shine the spotlight on the Friends Too Homemakers Club of Rush County.
The organizational meeting was held July 15, 1982, at the home of Louise Spurling, who was instrumental in starting the club.
Because several members of Friendly Neighbors had to miss afternoon meetings due to their work schedules, a new club was formed.
Through the years, they have enjoyed many special lessons such as making baskets and folded fabric potholders.
In 2000, they exhibited a “friendship quilt” at the Rush County Fair and received first prize. Each member sewed their pieces together, quilted their block and signed their name. Blocks were joined together by Gladys and Linda Kuhn. The outer edge binding to finish the quilt was added by Mary Louise Miller.
A quilt made by Linda Kuhn was chosen to be shown at Purdue Conference.
They enjoy trying new restaurants and broadening cooking skills. They have had themed pitch-in-dinners and special dessert nights. These gals really enjoy each others’ friendship.

Richland Wide Awake Club celebrates Mother’s Day
On May 15, six members and nine guests met at the New Salem Lions Club for their annual Mother’s Day Dinner. Hostesses were Diana Bedel, Julie Leach and Jan Roberts.

Darrel Wilkinson of Rushville has been contacted by the 500 Festival Parade Committee to drive his vintage Mercury convertible in this year’s IPL 500 Festival Parade.

Jivin Jackson 4-H Club shares demonstrations
The Jivin Jackson 4-H Club met May 14 at the Jackson Township Community Club with Jarrod White calling the meeting to order, Caitlyn Morris leading the American pledge and Devan Draper leading the 4-H pledge.

Mother-Daughter-Doll Tea a success
The members of Psi Iota Xi, Iota chapter held a Mother-Daughter-Doll Tea on Sunday, May 5 in the basement of St Paul’s United Methodist Church. Mothers, daughters and their dolls gathered for an afternoon of pleasantries.

RCHS Class of 1983 seeking classmates
The RCHS Class of 1983 is planning their 30 year class reunion for this summer. The event will take place starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at the Knights of Columbus.

The Milroy Alumni Association is in the process of updating class lists and renewing memberships in preparation for the upcoming Alumni get-together.

Friends Too met at the Home of Joleye Icenogle. President Roberta Cole opened the meeting and welcomed everyone. Naming your favorite president for roll call was very interesting.

The RCHS Class of 1993 is planning its 20 year reunion for July 19 and 20.

Local residents initiated into the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi
Cayla Simmermon and Mylee Simmermon, both at Butler University and from Knightstown, were recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.
