Optimist Club presents awards

Rushville Republican

RUSHVILLE — The Optimist of the Year award for the 2011-12 year was presented at the Rushville Breakfast Optimist Club meeting Oct. 9.

President Ken Masters named Ken Rushton the recipient of the club’s highest award, as voted by the membership.

The club congratulates Ken for his outstanding volunteer work this past year.

The Rookie of the Year award was also presented at the meeting. The award went to Marissa Taylor for her dedication and service as a first year Optimist Club member.      

A plaque was given to Ken Masters in recognition of his outstanding leadership to the Optimist Club the past three years.

Club officers for the 2012-13 year are: President, Ken Rushton; Past President, Ken Masters; Vice President, John Wall; Secretary-Treasurer, Chuck Kemker; 2 year board members Kevin Stone and Marrisa Taylor; and 1 year board members Raleigh Cox and Brian Humphrey.

If you would like to learn more about the Optimist Club, feel free to come to any weekly meeting at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Park Restaurant.

Their motto is “Friend of Youth.”

    The Noble Niters met May 29 at New Salem Methodist Church Ed building. Fifteen members and four guests attended. Linda Murphy read “Graduation” for inspiration. She also gave a report on “How to Buy Bliss.” The members discussed plans for Achievement Night in October.
