RUSHVILLE — Rush County Community Assistance recently received a $6,000 gift from the Rush County/Greensburg Dialysis Center of DaVita. Representing DaVita were Lisa Pharis, facility administrator Karla Kuhn, clinical coordinator, and Heather Swain, patient care tech.

Ms. Pharis, spoke and presented the gift, on behalf of DaVita. Pharis stated that at DaVita, “We are a community first and a company second. One way we live this is through our Trilogy of Care: caring for our patients, each other, and our world. As a part of Caring for our World, across the country, DaVita is giving approximately $1,000,000 (one million) to help non-profit organizations grow and thrive through an initiative called “The DaVita Way of Giving.” She also stated that DaVita’s Rush County and Greensburg centers were given the opportunity to select a local non-profit organization to benefit from DaVita’s charitable donation initiative.  Together they selected the Rush County Community Assistance.

Ms. Pharis shared that RCCA is an important neighbor, in the manner they serve the community by providing serves to those in need through the food pantry, housing referrals, and community assistance. She stated that DaVita is honored to be a community partner and neighbor, and hopes that the gift will assist in spreading ripples of citizen leadership into our wider community.

The check along with a certificate of gratitude was presented to Don Heller, RCCA Board President, who thanked DaVita for their community support and partnership.

Rush County Community Assistance is a non-profit agency located on East Third Street, Rushville that exist to assist local families with emergency food needs. RCCA provides food to approximately three hundred Rush County families monthly.  Clients are able to receive food assistance on a month. The center is opened on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and on the second Tuesday evening from 6 to 7 p.m.

In December 2012, RCCA provided 365 Christmas sacks with food to provide for a special holiday dinner, which included a ham.

Rush County churches, schools, and service organizations conduct food campaigns throughout the year to support this outreach. RCCA also receives grants from local industries, businesses, and services organizations that give support for operating expenses. Approximately seventy-five persons serve as volunteers who stock the shelves, assist clients on days the center is open, clean the facility, and who purchase additional perishable food items.

Thanks goes to DaVita for their very generous donation and to all who remember the food pantry for their assistance.
