Extension Homemakers around the Hoosier state are celebrating 100 years of service. Each publication between now and the anniversary, April 7, 2013, we are featuring memories, stories and tributes to the many accomplishments and members involved throughout the years. Have you been a member or was a mother or grandmother a member in the past. Become involved again in making new memories by calling Gracie Marlatt at the Extension office at: 932-5974. The local celebration will begin at 2 p.m. April 7 at the Root Building at the Rush County Fairgrounds. Everyone is welcome.
Today, we’re pleased to shine the spotlight on the Food, Fad & Fashion Homemakers Club of Rush County.
Food, Fad & Fashion club was organized Oct. 28, 1959.
They started with 13 ladies and membership has fluctuated to as many as 20 members. At present they have 12 members.
They have done many interesting things such as sponsoring children at the Indiana Soldiers’ & Sailors’ home when it was in operation. They have visited nursing homes and taken residents tray favors and treats. Some members have made Teddy Bears for ICAP. They have baked countless cookies for Ride-a-Bike and BPW Reality Store. They support Rush County by working on committees for the county fair, hosting Achievement and International Night.
Four members have served as county president: Virginia Wright, Mildred Stewart, Marva Lee Dyer and current president Sue Netherly.
Member Rachel Webster will be installed as the new county president this summer, so they continue to serve.

The Jivin Jackson 4-H Club met May 14 at the Jackson Township Community Club with Jarrod White calling the meeting to order, Caitlyn Morris leading the American pledge and Devan Draper leading the 4-H pledge.

Mother-Daughter-Doll Tea a success
The members of Psi Iota Xi, Iota chapter held a Mother-Daughter-Doll Tea on Sunday, May 5 in the basement of St Paul’s United Methodist Church. Mothers, daughters and their dolls gathered for an afternoon of pleasantries.

RCHS Class of 1983 seeking classmates
The RCHS Class of 1983 is planning their 30 year class reunion for this summer. The event will take place starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at the Knights of Columbus.

The Milroy Alumni Association is in the process of updating class lists and renewing memberships in preparation for the upcoming Alumni get-together.

Friends Too met at the Home of Joleye Icenogle. President Roberta Cole opened the meeting and welcomed everyone. Naming your favorite president for roll call was very interesting.

The RCHS Class of 1993 is planning its 20 year reunion for July 19 and 20.

Local residents initiated into the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi
Cayla Simmermon and Mylee Simmermon, both at Butler University and from Knightstown, were recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

Noble Niters Home Ec Club
The Noble Niters Home Ec Club met April 24 at the New Salem Methodist Church Ed Building. Marlene Fudge was host and Karen Hoeing was co-host. Eleven members and one guest answered the roll call response with their middle name.
