Milroy Research Literary Club meets

RUSHVILLE — Milroy Research Literary Club members met at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at the home of Marjorie Harcourt.

Vice president Valerie Wilson presided in the absence of the president JoAnn Brees. Mrs. Wilson opened the meeting by reading a beautiful poem, I Have Found Autumn.

The program for the evening was given by Ann Innis. She reviewed the article, My Life, My Inspiration, a loving tribute to the life of Lucimarian Roberts, written by her daughter Robin Roberts. She told of the remarkable life of her mother who lived through many challenging and difficult times. Lucimarian, with the help of a teacher mentor, received a scholarship to Howard University and was the first in her family to graduate from college. While there she met her future husband, Lawrence Roberts who became one of the Tuskegee Airmen. They married after the war and moved 27 times in the course of his 32 year military career. She suffered much hurt, anger and loneliness because of exclusion from social groups at various military locations but she found great comfort and solace in playing the piano and singing her favorite hymns at the chapel or wherever she could find a piano. Music was always her joy in good times and comfort in times of heartache. Because of her strong faith and music she was able to endure and persevere during the hard times. At the age of 88, Lucimarian wrote “My Story, My Song,” the story of her long, beautiful life.

The secretary’s report was given by Pat Carrigan. Members responded to roll call by showing a memento and telling of its significance to them.

A discussion was held concerning making a contribution to the Rush County Chorale. The amount will be decided at the next meeting.

The meeting closed with all members repeating the collect.

The next meeting will be at the home of Doris Richey and the program will be given by Joan Lines.

Delightful refreshments were served by the hostess.
