Jackson Twp. School Annual Reunion

RUSHVILLE — On Sunday, October 28th, 2012, around fifty former students and friends gathered for their 21st Annual Jackson Twp. School Alumni Reunion at the Jackson Community Building. Steve Ward, our capable M.C., led a moment of silence for the 17 former students who had passed on this last year.

After a prayer of thanks, we all enjoyed a wonderful meal. Jackson Twp. School sure turned out a lot of good cooks. Then Steve Ward held a brief meeting after which we enjoyed hearing interesting stories from the former students.

Kay Wood led us in a game of Jackson School trivia. Kay and Glen had decorated the community building in a 1950’s theme of Rock n’ Roll. They do a great job every year.

Mrs. Kaiser, a former teacher of Jackson Twp. School was in attendance as well as 2 former bus drivers, Chase Waggoner and Richard Ruby. The oldest student attending was Mildred McMichael/Duke, who is 98 years old. The student who came the farthest was Ralph Jones, from Las Vegas, Nev.

We were happy to have some new attendees and guests. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Thompson joined us for the first time. Mr. Thompson’s mother was a teacher at Jackson as some of the older students may remember. Doris McAllister also joined us, as she had attended Jackson all 8 years. It was her first time to attend also.

We had a number of new attendees this reunion, Mr. Wall; husband of Trustee Donna Gosser/Wall attended. It was nice to see Connie and Carol Jones’s husbands for the first time also. It was also nice to have Carol Jones’s daughter join us, hope she does again.

Our guests were from Indianapolis, Mrs. Emily McGowan/Dice, and Pauline Dice Maze.  Emily McGowan/Dice’s sisters had gone to Jackson School and she enjoyed visiting with many former friends.  We also enjoyed the company of Lois Liggett’s grandson Joshua and his wife, Valerie, from St. Louis, Mo. We were happy to see them all.

Thanks go to Walter McMichael, Linda Pitts/Hankins, Dee Tice/Newman, Don Wright, Betty Hanson/Newhouse, Jack Hanson, Kay and Glenn Wood for all their help setting up the table and chairs. Many thanks also for their help in the clean up.

We hope to see you all there next year for the 22nd Annual Jackson Twp. School Reunion on Oct. 27, 2013, on the last Sunday of October.
