Carthage Wesleyan Church

Our Sunday morning message at Carthage Wesleyan Church was delivered by Assistant Pastor Tim Hensley. He preached a message out of Revelation chapter 1. Jesus tells John that "I am the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending." Assistant Pastor Hensley spoke of how Jesus was there in the beginning with God and how all things are created for him. He also explained how Jesus is the ending, and on that day when the Father stands it will be Jesus who comes on clouds of glory to take His children home. The morning service was closed with the song “The Alpha and Omega.”

Sunday night Assistant Pastor Doug Stroud preached a message from Galatians 5. He spoke of the fruit of the spirit and as he handed fruit out he spoke of how bad it would be if he was giving out rotten fruit. He compared this with the fruit that many of us as Christians hand out. He encouraged the congregation to walk in the Spirit and to put forth good fruit so that the world can see Jesus in your daily walk with him.

We would like to invite everyone to come join us here at Carthage Wesleyan Church for powerful praise and worship and sound biblical teaching. Here you are only a stranger once.

Zion United Church of Christ

Veterans honored during 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday. Zion annual congregational meeting after worship service.

Children's Christmas program practice at 9:30 a.m. Bring food for food pantry.

St. Mary Catholic Church

Special candles were given to family members during the Cemetery Mass Nov. 1 at Calvary Cemetery, of those who have died over the past year. If you were not able to attend the Cemetery Mass, your candle may be picked up at the parish office during regular business hours. During November, the church remembers all the people who have died, especially those during the past year. A “Remembrance Book” has been placed near the tabernacle to write the names of your deceased relatives and friends. These people and those who have died will be remembered throughout the month of November.

The St. Mary Youth Group will have a bake sale after all Masses on Nov. 14 and 15. All proceeds will go towards helping fill Thanksgiving baskets for the St. Mary Food Pantry. Please support our youth and their efforts. Attention all youth group participants: We need baked goods for our bake sale on Nov. 14 and 15. We also need volunteers after all Masses to sell the goods.

We will meet at 4 p.m. Nov. 15 to fill Thanksgiving baskets with non-perishable goods. Please contact Lori Hoeing (932-3037 or 561-3185) or Debbie Banks (932-5958) if you can help or donate to bake sale.

Children’s Christmas Eve Liturgy will be at 4 p.m. Dec. 24. If you are interested in helping with this special Mass, please call Mrs. Hasecuster at school.

Rushville Church of Christ

Dick Moster will bring special music this Sunday during morning worship. This is the Sunday before Veteran’s Day, and Jerry’s message is titled: “Freedom Isn’t Free.” This is obvious in our nation’s life and it is also true in our spiritual experience. To be freed from sin is very costly by the One who makes it possible and also by those who enjoy the benefits of that freedom. We also will note that this day has been set aside as the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. Jr. Church and Wee Worship will meet the same hour. Sunday Bible Classes will meet.

The Dorcas Ladies Circle will host a pitch-in Thanksgiving meal for everyone at noon Sunday.

Youth Meetings will be in the late afternoon.

Angel Food Orders, 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday. Church meal Wednesday.

Angel Food Orders may be obtained at the Library, or phone the church at 932-2489. November delivery will be from 8 to 10 a.m. Nov. 21.

"Living A Life That Counts"

What really matters? "Our souls are not hungry for fame, comfort, wealth or power. Those rewards create almost as many problems as they solve. Our souls are hungry for meaning ... we want our lives to matter." Rabbi Kushner.

What is it you live for? At the end of the day does it bring you peace? We would be wise to heed the words of Moses in Psalm 90; he talks about how short our time on earth really is. C.T. Studd tells what we should be doing with our life, "Only one life, ‘twill soon be past. Only what's done for Christ will last." What have you done for Christ lately? Visit with us this Sunday for our continuing series on “A Life That Counts."
