Law enforcement scholarship available

RUSHVILLE — Rush County Sheriff Jeff Sherwood recently announced that scholarships are available to individuals pursuing a career in law enforcement. The 40 scholarships are available through the Indiana Sheriff’s Association and are for $500 each.

According to Sherwood, the monetary assistance is offered statewide and, in recent years, Rush County has had multiple recipients.

“Rushville has been very well represented statewide with multiple county winners. Last year, Rush County had two individuals awarded a scholarship. In recent years we have had as many as four students receive scholarships,” Sherwood said.

He continued by saying that Rush County has had two or more recipients of the financial assistance each of the past three years.

The $500 scholarships are presented by the Indiana Sheriff’s Association, which awards 40 college scholarships annually to qualified high school seniors or students already enrolled in college pursuing a criminal justice degree and can be used to help offset the cost of books or other education-related expenditures.

To qualify, applicants must be a Hoosier resident, a current member of the association or the dependent child or grandchild of a current member of the ISA. The student must enroll and attend an Indiana college or university as a full-time student and major in a law enforcement field.

Applications are available at the RCHS counselor’s office; the RCSD, 131 E. First Street, Rushville; or by writing to the ISA at 147 E. Maryland St., Indianapolis, IN 46204-3608.

Applications must be completed and received at the ISA office on or before April 1.
