RUSHVILLE —
A ‘Youth Outdoor Experience’ day has been scheduled for July 31 at the Rush County Conservation Club located on SR 44 east of Rushville. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Youths attending will enjoy informational displays and presentations and a variety of hands-on activities a few of which are instruction in archery, firearms safety and how to cast and use fishing equipment. Youths will be eligible to receive door prizes. An accompanying adult is required for some of the prizes to be awarded including a day fishing on Brookville Lake and a guided bird hunt on a private shooting preserve. Hunting dog demonstrations will take place as well as fly-fishing, fly-tying, turkey calling and trap shooting demonstrations. Outdoor mentors from the community will be on hand to demonstrate and explain various forms of outdoor related pursuits. Wildlife biologists and conservation officers from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources will be present to meet with youths and their parents. According to organizer Jeff Morgan, a goal of the ‘Youth Outdoor Experience’ is to “provide youths with a basic introduction to a variety of outdoor activities that they otherwise may not have an opportunity.” The event is free of charge and open to all youths. Drinks and a light lunch will be available. The event is being sponsored by the Hoosier Tree Dog Alliance and the Rush County Coonhunters Association.Sports
