Lions fall on rain-soaked Senior Night

RUSHVILLE — On the final home game of the regular season for the Lions, the rain was the one constant as Pendleton Heights and Rushville battled on a soaked Hinshaw Field. In the end, it was the Arabians that made enough plays to hold off the Lions 28-20.

The Lions fall to 1-7 on the season and the Arabians improve to 6-2.

Pendleton opened the scoring at the 5:02 mark of the first quarter on a 1-yard quarterback sneak by Jesse Furrow.

The Arabians extended the lead to 14-0 as Jon Furrow scored from 3-yards out at the 7:05 mark of the second quarter.

Rushville got back in the game as Pendleton fumbled a punt and Rushville’s Josh Yager recovered the ball. The Lions scored on a 2-yard run by Zach Turner to cut the deficit to 14-7 with 1:54 to play in the half.

The momentum was quickly reversed as Pendleton’s Chandler Wilson took the ensuing kick-off 86 yards for the touchdown. The Arabians led 21-7 at the half.

Rushville recovered the third quarter kick off fumbled by the Arabians and made Pendleton pay as Turner added his second touchdown. This one from 1-yard out to make it 21-14 with 8:38 to play in the third quarter.

Pendleton again came back and got a 19-yard touchdown pass from Jesse Furrow to Will Galliher to make it 28-14 with 4:49 left in the third quarter.

Late in the game, Clay Tressler connected with Ashton Wilson on the 17-yard touchdown strike to cut the deficit to 28-20.

Pendleton recovered the on-side kick to seal the victory.

For the Lions, Tressler completed three passes for 67 yards. Turner finished with 20 carries for 95 yards. Garrett Hittle had nine carries for 36 yards.

Jim Arney led the Arabians on the ground with 158 yards rushing. Hittle led the Lions with 10 tackles. Isaac Sliger and Turner both had seven tackles.

The Lions travel to Yorktown at 7:30 p.m. Friday for the season finale. The Lions will be in action the following Friday at Indian Creek for the opening of the sectional.
