RUSHVILLE —
The Lions hosted the IHSAA cross country regional on the home course and the familiar surrounds fit the Lions just fine as Rushville took fifth place overall and qualified for the Carmel Regional Saturday.
Franklin Central won the team title with 53 followed by Warren Central 65, Roncalli 81, Greenfield-Central 141 and Rushville 149 to round out the semistate qualifying schools.
Rushville was led by Ryan Fogg in 19th place with a time of 17:36. Dalton Miller was next in 32nd with a time of 18:02. James Brashaber finished 34th in 18:08. Josh Clifton ran an 18:12 for 37th. Kenny Nigh was 45th in 18:30. Garrett Young was 57th in 18:59 and David Fogg was 58th in 19:09.
"I am incredibly proud of how these young men ran on Saturday. Coach Federle and I spoke to the team after the meet about how special an accomplishment this was and about how it was a complete team effort. We would not have advanced had Fogg not finished as high as he did, nor would we have advanced if Nigh didn't finish as well as he did," Coach Jim Helsley said. "We knew our pack would have to ran really well to makeup for the fact New Palestine would have two guys finishing very close to the top. Miller, Brashaber and Clifton all finished within 10 seconds of each other. That was good enough for us to makeup for New Palestine's advantage. These kids have worked really hard, and I’m so happy for them that they were able to experience this accomplishment."
