Lady Lions finish season strong

RUSHVILLE — At the IHSAA girls swim sectional, the Lady Lions completed the year with eight personal bests in the preliminary round Thursday and added three more in the consolations Saturday.

The 200 medley relay team of Courtney Hall, Brenna Hall, Abby Clark and Autumn Meece set a personal best of 2:36.51 in the prelims and went lower in the consolation round with a 2:32.09 for 10th place.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Clark, Allison Wainwright, Rachel Sayman and Meece set a best time of 2:21.14 Thursday and followed that with a new PR 2:17.96 Saturday for 10th place.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Clark, Sayman, Wainwright and Brenna Hall finished with a time of 5:23.69 Thursday, but came back Saturday with a new PR of 5:03.94 Saturday for 10th place.

Katie Egielske finished 13th in the diving with a score of 208.15.

In the 200 freestyle, Courtney Hall was 25th in 2:59.89 followed by Sayman 26th in 3:04.32 and Michaela Colestock 27th in a PR 3:12.23.

Clark was 23rd in the 200 individual medley with a PR of 3:24.76.

In the 50 freestyle, Meece finished 24th in a PR :33.60 with Wainwright 26th in PR of :35.31 and Sarah Daubenspeck in :55.08.

Sayman was 27th in the 100 freestyle in 1:20.70 with Wainwright 28th in 1:21.67 and Nici Martin 30th in 1:35.26.

Courtney Hall took 25th in the 100 backstroke with time of 1:32.61. Megan Clifton was 28th with a PR of 1:45.01 and Shelbie Brown was 30th with a PR of 2:00.24.

In the 100 breaststroke, Brenna Hall was 21st in a PR of 1:24.93 with Riko Itakura 26th in a PR of 1:34.73 and Colestock 28th in 1:46.26.

Connersville won the team title with 356. Mt. Vernon was second with 352 followed by New Palestine 312, Greenfield-Central 293, Richmond 285, New Castle 243, Centerville 163, Hagerstown 71, Eastern Hancock 55 and Rushville 46.

     In what some called a tie, scorers Scott McCambridge and Tim Rogers who were situated directly above the start finish line in the scoring tower gave the win to Kyle Donahue of St Louis Mo. over second place James Edsall of Indianapolis by mere inches in the Legends feature.

    LOUISVILLE - Trey Lyles of Indianapolis Tech scored 18 points and James Blackmon Jr. of Marion added 13 points on a perfect shooting performance Saturday (June 8) at St. Xavier High School, lifting the IndyStar.com Indiana Junior All-Star boys to an 86-73 victory over Kentucky and a “double sweep” of the 2013 series.

  • Thompson, Stewart and Hughes win

    Jason Thompson of Shirley picked up his second feature win of the year Saturday night at the Mt. Lawn Speedway in the Van Hoy Oil Late Model division.  Thompson took the lead of the race on the very first lap when he passed both Brock Anderson of Albany and Kent Carson of Richmond. Thompson led all the way for the win.
