RUSHVILLE —
The visiting Lady Red Devils had the hot shooting hand in the first quarter, but the Lady Lions were able to pull away in the second half to post their third win in a row 65-50.
Richmond took its first lead at 7-4 on a 3-pointer by Alexis Davis. After a rebound bucket by Sarah Cook, Richmond’s Bailey Hillard hit from behind the arc. The Lady Red Devils scored eight straight points on a pair of 3-pointers by Mackenzie Taylor and bucket by Hillard to lead 18-9. Rushville closed the quarter with three free throws to cut the deficit to 18-12.
Keragan Niehoff and Cook scored the first two buckets of the second quarter as the Lady Lions began their comeback. Following a Richmond score, two straight buckets by Cook had the game tied at 20-20 before Richmond’s Taylor hit another from long range. Back-to-back buckets by Niehoff gave Rushville the lead at 24-23 and Cook’s traditional three-point play had the Lady Lions on top for good at 31-28.
Richmond closed the first half with a rebound bucket by Sarah Richards to cut the deficit to 31-30 at the half.
The Lady Lions opened the second half on a 12-2 run. Cook started the run and two straight buckets by Kelsi Ash had the Rushville lead at 43-32 midway through the third quarter. Rushville pushed the lead to 15 points on two occasions - on a bucket by Mackenzie Campbell and one by Niehoff. Richmond fought back with the final eight points of the quarter and trailed 51-44 heading to the fourth quarter.
The comeback by the Lady Red Devils was not to be. Rushville outscored the Lady Red Devils 14-6 in the fourth quarter - including 14-2 to start the frame. Mikayla Dougherty’s 3-pointer capped the scoring for the Lady Lions as Richmond scored the final four points to make the final margin 65-50.
Cook led the Lady Lions with 21 points. Campbell had 13 and Niehoff had 12. Richmond was led by Taylor with 23 points.
In the opening game, the Lady Red Devils struggled to score as Rushville went on to the 22-9 win. Rushville outscored the Lady Red Devils 11-6 in the first half and 11-3 in the second half. Rushville was led by Makayla Herbert with five points. Ellie Sammons had four.
The Lady Lions (3-2) travel to Greenfield-Central (1-4) Saturday. The junior varsity game is set for noon.

Lions outlast Spartans 9-8
Connersville and Rushville scored a combined 17 runs through four innings. The Lions then shut down the Spartans offense the final three innings to take the 9-8 victory.

Lion golfers fall to Trojans, Dragons
NEW CASTLE - The Lion golf team traveled to Westwood Country Club to face the New Castle Trojans. In varsity action, the Lions fell to the Trojans 163-183.

Lady Lions third at track sectional
CONNERSVILLE – The Lady Lion track team traveled to Connersville for the IHSAA track sectional. The host Lady Spartans won the team title with 127 points. Hagerstown was second with 98 followed by Rushville with 94.5.
Union County finished fourth with 85 followed by Richmond 62, Cambridge City Lincoln 56, Centerville 46, Seton Catholic 23, Tri 12.5 and Northeastern 11. -
Brown slams Lady Lions to win
CONNERSVILLE – Freshman Shelbie Brown blasted a grand slam to help the Lady Lions rally past Connersville 9-8 Wednesday. The Lady Lions improve to 8-10 on the year.

Tennis team fall to HHC foe Yorktown
YORKTOWN – The Lady Lion tennis team traveled to Yorktown to take on the Lady Tigers. The host squad knocked off the Lady Lions 5-0 in varsity action. Rushville is 4-12 overall and 0-7 in the HHC.

Cougars fight off Lions
The Cougars of Greenfield-Central rallied in the opener of the doubleheader against Rushville and then cruised to a win in the second game to sweep the HHC double-dip Friday.

Lions run to HHC track title
The Lion track team competed in the Hoosier Heritage Conference track meet and returned to Rushville with the hardware - the HHC team championship trophy.

Pendleton Heights posted a sub-300 team score to claim the Hoosier Heritage Conference golf title.

Visiting Mt. Vernon (Fortville) defeated Rushville 176-193 in golf action on the back nine at Antler Pointe.
