The Lady Lion gymnasts traveled to the Spartan Bowl in Connersville to complete in sectional action Saturday.
In a very solid gymnastics field, the Lady Lions scored 88.45 to take fifth place overall. The top three teams and top six individuals advance to the regional at Columbus East.
Hagerstown won the team title with 108.275. New Palestine was second with 104.425. New Castle was third with 104.1. Morristown finished fourth with 99.7 followed by the Lady Lions. Cambridge City Lincoln was sixth with 87.8 followed by Richmond 887.55, Tri 86.4, Connersville 85.1 and Franklin County 49.1.
“This week proved a bit hard to concentrate on the task at hand with all the excitement of the girls basketball team, but the girls seemed to settle down and perform well Saturday,” RCHS coach Karen Day noted.
“I was very proud of the girls. They gave it their all on Saturday and that is all that any coach can ask. They represented Rushville very well,” Coach Day added. “Several of the girls are also varsity cheerleaders, so once the meet was concluded, they changed their clothes and headed out with their parents to the state basketball finals in Ft. Wayne. So they had a very long day and long week for that matter.”
For the Lady Lions, Ashley Murphy scored a 30.15 to take 16th in the all-around competition. She scored 8.65 on vault, 7.425 on uneven bars, 6.225 on balance beam and 7.85 on floor.
Hannah Orme scored 8.55 on vault, 6.15 on beam and 7.80 on floor.
Emily Hamill scored 6.75 on bars and 5.85 on beam.
Kristiann Maggard received 8.6 on vault, 6.925 on beam and 7.375 on floor.
Becca Rogers scored 8.3 on vault.
On the bars, Lindsey Hutchinson scored 6.15 and Janica Jones scored 4.1.
Liz Flath received 6.25 on floor.
“These girls had a good season and while I am graduating three seniors and I will miss them, next year looks very promising as the girls have stated they will stay in the gym over the summer working on new skills. I also will have several talented freshman who will join the team next year and help us out a lot. I want to thank all the girls and their parents for another great season,” Coach Day noted.
