RUSHVILLE —
Great conditions surrounded the running of the 35th annual Whiteland Invitational and the runners took advantage with great times.
New Palestine won the team title for the girls with 40. Whiteland was second with 76 followed by Greenwood 79, Southwestern 104, Jennings County 113, Greenwood Christian 150, Beech Grove 154, Hauser 179, Rushville incomplete, Shelbyville incomplete and Waldron incomplete.
The Lady Lions were led by freshman Monica Dougherty with a season best 23:24 to grab 22nd place.
Junior Michaela Orme was next for the Lady Lions in a season best 24:55 for 32nd place.
Freshman Tiffany Nickel ran a season best 24:59 for 35th and senior Anne Coffin had a season best 26:40 for 44th.
For the boys, Greenwood took top honors with 40 followed by Whiteland 53, Rushville 68, Jennings County 118, New Palestine 132, Beech Grove 152, Shelbyville 161, Waldron 216, Southwestern 247 and Hauser incomplete.
Sophomore Evan Dyer led the Lions with a third place finish in a season best 16:57.
Junior James Brashaber had a season best 17:30 for 12th.
Junior Nick Zepeda finished 14th in a season best 17:43.
Junior Ryan Fogg was 15th in a season best 17:48.
Junior Josh Clifton finished 28th in a season best 18:29.
Sophomore Dalton Miller was 33rd in a season best 18:49 and sophomore Michael Ford was 46th in a season best 19:35.
Both teams are in action today hosting Connersville and Union County.

The Lions capped the regular season with a 10-8 victory over Richmond at McBride Stadium.

Lions roll Chargers on Senior Night
The Lions honored three players (Matt St. John, Mitch Gosnell and Jeff Rennekamp) for Senior Night and then dismantled the North Decatur Chargers 29-1.

For a second year in a row, the Lion track team brought home the hardware from the track sectional at Connersville. The Lions tallied 101 points to earn the championship.
