Lady Lions cruise to win over Pirates

RUSHVILLE — The Lady Lions got off to a 12-0 start and the rout was on as Rushville rolled to a 70-34 victory over visiting Greensburg Saturday. The Lady Lions improve to 6-2 as they head to Greenwood (8-1) today. The Lady Pirates drop to 4-4 overall.

Keragan NiehoffÕs rebound bucket got the scoring started and Mikayla DoughertyÕs 3-pointer had the lead at 7-0 when Greensburg coach Mike Miller called for time-out. Dougherty scored out of the break and Mackenzie Campbell drained a 3-pointer to push the lead to 12-0 with 4:05 left in the first quarter.

GreensburgÕs Joanna Redelman scored to stop the Rushville run. Rushville closed the quarter on a 10-6 run to lead 22-8 after one quarter.

The onslaught continued in the second quarter as the Lady Lions outscored the Lady Pirates 17-9 in the second quarter and 18-3 in the third quarter.

In the second quarter, a 3-pointer by Makayla Herbert had the lead at 21 points and later in the frame, DoughertyÕs triple pushed the lead to 23 points. Jessica Banaschak had four points in the second for the Lady Pirate with Taylor McIntosh adding three.

The third quarter was all Rushville. The Lady Lions scored the first 13 points of the third quarter with Clare OwenÕs 3-pointer the only points in the third for the Lady Pirates. Niehoff and Campbell combined for the final seven points of the third as the Lady Lions led 57-20 heading to the fourth quarter.

The Lady Pirates had their best quarter of the game in the fourth, scoring 14 points. Banaschak had six points of her 10 points in the fourth. Megan Schmidt hit a triple for the Lady Pirates as Greensburg scored the final eight points of the game to cut the final deficit to 70-34.

The Lady Lions had five players in double figures with Campbell 15, Niehoff 14, Herbert 12, Dougherty 10 and Kelsi Ash 10. BanaschakÕs 10 led the Lady Pirates.

In the first game of the afternoon, the Lady Lions jumped out to an 11-5 lead and pushed it to 20-11 at the half. A 10-4 run in the third sealed RushvilleÕs victory, 36-25.

The Lady Lions were led by McKenzie Woolston with 12 points. Schmidt led the Lady Pirates with six.

The Lady Lion ÒCÓ team fell to Columbus North 31-20. The team is 4-2 on the year.

Brooklyn Herbert led the Lady Lions with six points and eight boards.

Keely Springman had six points and three rebounds. Katy Newbold finished with two points, one steal and 14 rebounds. Katlyn Buckley had two points, three rebounds and two steals. McKenzie Woolston had two points and three steals. Desiree Evener scored two points.
