NEW PALESTINE – The Hoosier Heritage Conference swim meet was held at New Palestine Saturday with the Lady Tigers of Yorktown and the Cougars of Greenfield-Central taking home the conference championships.
For the girls, Yorktown took top honors with 393 points. Mt. Vernon was second with 353 followed by Pendleton Heights 330, New Palestine 319, Delta 244, Greenfield-Central 232, Shelbyville 126 and Rushville 74.
For the boys, Greenfield-Central was first with 450.5 followed by Mt. Vernon 306.5, Pendleton Heights 305, Yorktown 295, Delta 287, Shelbyville 221, New Palestine 162 and Rushville 22.
The Lady Lions’ 200 medley relay team of Courtney Hall, Brenna Hall, Abby Clark and Allison Wainwright finished eighth in 2:43.90. The Lion team of Sam Cole, Jacob Fowler, Stone Worth and Evan Messer took eighth in 2:23.89.
In the 200 freestyle, Rachel Sayman was 22nd in a personal best 2:56.26. Courtney Hall was 23rd in a personal best 3:04.25 and Michaela Colestock was 24th in 3:19.98.
Clark finished 20th in the 200 individual medley with a personal best 3:29.08 and Brenna Hall was 21st in 3:36.46.
In the 50 freestyle, Nici Martin finished 22nd in a personal best :43.07 with Sarah Daubenspeck 23rd in a personal best :52.66. Messer took 22nd for the Lions in :31.92.
Katie Egielske finished 11th in the diving with 186.95 points.
Sayman set another personal best in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:19.06 for 22nd place. Clark was 23rd in 1:20.61 and Wainwright was 24th in a personal best 1:22.73.
The Lady Lions’ 200 freestyle relay team of Brenna Hall, Sayman, Wainwright and Shelbie Brown finished eighth in 2:27.76.
In the 100 backstroke, Courtney Hall finished 22nd in 1:36.08. Megan Clifton was 23rd in a personal best 1:58.63 and Brown was 24th in 2:10.40. For the Lions, Cole was 20th in a personal best 1:20.57 and Messer was 21st in 1:44.14.
Brenna Hall took 19th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:29.64 with Riko Itakura 22nd in a personal best 1:35.95 and Colestock 23rd in a personal best 1:46.49. Fowler took 20th for the Lions in 1:30.10.
The Lady Lions’ 400 freestyle relay team of Clark, Sayman, Wainwright and Itakura finished eighth in 5:35.37.

Lady Lions claim sectional title
CONNERSVILLE – After a season of ups and down and battling through injury and illness, the Lady Lion tennis team put it all together Saturday and captured the sectional title at Connersville.

Woods' walk-off lifts Lady Lions by Tigers
In the final tune-up before the softball sectional, the Lady Lions got a walk-off home run by Shelby Woods to edge Hagerstown 1-0. The Lady Lions complete the regular season at 9-10.

Lions second in track sectional
CONNERSVILLE – The host Spartans of Connersville ended the 2-year run for Rushville as track sectional champions. Connersville tallied 150 points to claim the sectional crown. The Lions finished second with 130 followed by Richmond 125, Centerville 54, Cambridge City Lincoln 47, Franklin County 35, Hagerstown 25, Union County 23, Northeastern 21, Tri 7 and Oldenburg Academy 3.

Lions drop two to Dragons on Senior Night
The Lions celebrated Senior Night for 10 players – James Brashaber, Brian Busald, Mark Busald, Mike Busald, Kyle Hoeing, Austin Maggard, Austin Niehoff, Hunter Orme, John Riddell and Matthew Wagoner – before face HHC foe New Palestine Friday. The visiting Dragons were able to sweep the doubleheader from the Lions.

RCHS sports physicals for the 2013-2014 school year will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, at Rush Memorial Hospital.

Lions outlast Spartans 9-8
Connersville and Rushville scored a combined 17 runs through four innings. The Lions then shut down the Spartans offense the final three innings to take the 9-8 victory.

Lion golfers fall to Trojans, Dragons
NEW CASTLE - The Lion golf team traveled to Westwood Country Club to face the New Castle Trojans. In varsity action, the Lions fell to the Trojans 163-183.

Lady Lions third at track sectional
CONNERSVILLE – The Lady Lion track team traveled to Connersville for the IHSAA track sectional. The host Lady Spartans won the team title with 127 points. Hagerstown was second with 98 followed by Rushville with 94.5.
Union County finished fourth with 85 followed by Richmond 62, Cambridge City Lincoln 56, Centerville 46, Seton Catholic 23, Tri 12.5 and Northeastern 11. -
Brown slams Lady Lions to win
CONNERSVILLE – Freshman Shelbie Brown blasted a grand slam to help the Lady Lions rally past Connersville 9-8 Wednesday. The Lady Lions improve to 8-10 on the year.

Tennis team fall to HHC foe Yorktown
YORKTOWN – The Lady Lion tennis team traveled to Yorktown to take on the Lady Tigers. The host squad knocked off the Lady Lions 5-0 in varsity action. Rushville is 4-12 overall and 0-7 in the HHC.
