BRMS basketball
The BRMS eighth-grade girls basketball teams posted a sweep of Doe Creek.
The eighth-grade Black won 45-36. Marley led the Lady Cubs with 17 points. Ash had 15 points. Fogg, Adkins and Beavers had four points. Aldridge had one point.
The eighth-grade Red won 42-31. Megyn Kirchoff led the Lady Cubs with 19 points. Madison Owen added 14 points. Mekyna Hall had six points and Casey Chabre had three points.
In earlier action, the Red went 1-1 at the Connersville tournament. The Lady Cubs fell to St. Michael 24-15. Chabre had eight points with Owen scoring four and Kirchoff three.
The Lady Cubs then defeated Connersville 24-4. Chabre had 10 points followed by Owen six, Kirchoff two, Beavers two, Kassie Herbert two, Mekyna Hall one and Macie Orme one.
The eighth-grade girls defeated Knightstown 35-17. Ash had 17 points and three rebounds followed by Fogg eight points and five rebounds, Adkins six points and seven, Markley three points and one rebound, Eldridge two points and one rebound, Owens two points and four rebounds, Flannery one rebound, Kirchoff two assists, and Hall one rebound.
Boys basketball sectional
Boys basketball sectional season tickets will be on sale through noon Tuesday. Tickets are $10. This is an open sale and all seats are general admission.
JV basketball
On Friday evening the Lions’ JV basketball team (12-7) traveled to Greenfield to take on the host Cougars and came away with a 38-22 victory. The Lions were able to take a 13-10 lead into half and outscored the Cougars 25-12 in the second half. Kris Combs led the team with 12 points followed by Ricky Thompson 10, Jon Seals nine, Bryce Dye three, Nathan Borders two and Jaret Sons two.
HHC girls basketball
The HHC announced the first team and honorable mention girls basketball teams. Rushville had three members of the first team - Mackenzie Campbell, Sarah Cook and Keragan Niehoff. Mikayla Dougherty was named honorable mention and head coach Melissa Marlow was named Coach of the Year.

Photo finish in Mt Lawn Legends race
In what some called a tie, scorers Scott McCambridge and Tim Rogers who were situated directly above the start finish line in the scoring tower gave the win to Kyle Donahue of St Louis Mo. over second place James Edsall of Indianapolis by mere inches in the Legends feature.

Indiana Junior All-Stars sweep
LOUISVILLE - Trey Lyles of Indianapolis Tech scored 18 points and James Blackmon Jr. of Marion added 13 points on a perfect shooting performance Saturday (June 8) at St. Xavier High School, lifting the IndyStar.com Indiana Junior All-Star boys to an 86-73 victory over Kentucky and a “double sweep” of the 2013 series.

Thoughts from the sports desk
One of the sporting events that I try to watch as much of as possible is the College World Series. This year, I’ve even been able to catch some of the regional and super regional action leading to the eight teams heading to Omaha.

Thompson, Stewart and Hughes win
Jason Thompson of Shirley picked up his second feature win of the year Saturday night at the Mt. Lawn Speedway in the Van Hoy Oil Late Model division. Thompson took the lead of the race on the very first lap when he passed both Brock Anderson of Albany and Kent Carson of Richmond. Thompson led all the way for the win.

Indiana and Kentucky to meet on the hardwood
Although the universities (Indiana and Kentucky) may not be playing on a regular schedule, the high school All-Star series between the two border states continues with action beginning Friday at Greenfield-Central. Top junior and senior players from around the state are apart of this annual classic and this area is well represented.

Garland makes second trip to state
BLOOMINGTON - For high school athletes, it is a dream to compete in the state finals. For Rushville senior Joe Garland, he was able to experience the state finals twice in the same year.

Lions end season at Richmond Sectional
RICHMOND - Due to a conflict with school and the new golf sectional that the Rushville golf team competes in, the Lions were playing without some key players Monday.
