Fever coach to speak at area fundraiser

RUSHVILLE — WNBA Champion Indiana Fever Coach Lin Dunn will be the featured speaker at Harvest Helpings, the capital fundraiser for The Blue River Community Harvest of Carthage from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 19 at the Harvest building, 9462 N. Carthage Pike, Carthage. Harvest Helpings raises money to support the food and clothing needs of people in Carthage and rural Rush, Henry, Shelby, and Hancock county area.

Tickets for the fundraiser are $30 per person and will include one Fever game ticket voucher with every ticket purchased for the fundraiser.

The evening features remarks from Coach Dunn, a light dessert bar, and both a silent and “live” auction. The silent auction will included themed baskets, a miniature Colts helmet signed by Tony Dungy, and many gifts created by local artisans. There will be several items for “live” auction, including 3 pies baked by Coach Dunn with surprises inside each one; a Colts Quilt; a Burn Pit donated by Skelley Masonry; a Water Boulder donated by Fireboulder; and other great prizes.

Individual tickets are $30; tables of 8, $250. In October 2012, The Indiana Fever captured their first WNBA championship with its Game 4 victory over the Minnesota Lynx during what was its eighth consecutive trip to the WNBA Playoffs. It is the city’s first professional basketball championship since the 1973 Indiana Pacers won the ABA crown.

A WNBA playoff participant in eight straight seasons and nine times since 2002, the Indiana Fever has reached at least the Eastern Conference Finals in five of the past eight years. Participating in the WNBA Finals for the second time in four years, the Indiana Fever became the champion of women’s basketball for the 2012 WNBA championship.

  • Woods' walk-off lifts Lady Lions by Tigers

    In the final tune-up before the softball sectional, the Lady Lions got a walk-off home run by Shelby Woods to edge Hagerstown 1-0. The Lady Lions complete the regular season at 9-10.

  • Lions second in track sectional

    CONNERSVILLE – The host Spartans of Connersville ended the 2-year run for Rushville as track sectional champions. Connersville tallied 150 points to claim the sectional crown. The Lions finished second with 130 followed by Richmond 125, Centerville 54, Cambridge City Lincoln 47, Franklin County 35, Hagerstown 25, Union County 23, Northeastern 21, Tri 7 and Oldenburg Academy 3.

  • Lions drop two to Dragons on Senior Night

    The Lions celebrated Senior Night for 10 players – James Brashaber, Brian Busald, Mark Busald, Mike Busald, Kyle Hoeing, Austin Maggard, Austin Niehoff, Hunter Orme, John Riddell and Matthew Wagoner – before face HHC foe New Palestine Friday. The visiting Dragons were able to sweep the doubleheader from the Lions.

    Connersville and Rushville scored a combined 17 runs through four innings. The Lions then shut down the Spartans offense the final three innings to take the 9-8 victory.

  • Lady Lions third at track sectional

    CONNERSVILLE – The Lady Lion track team traveled to Connersville for the IHSAA track sectional. The host Lady Spartans won the team title with 127 points. Hagerstown was second with 98 followed by Rushville with 94.5.
    Union County finished fourth with 85 followed by Richmond 62, Cambridge City Lincoln 56, Centerville 46, Seton Catholic 23, Tri 12.5 and Northeastern 11.
