JUNE



TUESDAY (6/26)

l Rush County Fair runs through June 30.

THURSDAY (6/28)

l Briar Patch Players will perform, "Any Dream Will Do," at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. June 28 at The Laughlin Center. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door. Season tickets are $12 which allows the holder into all performances.

SATURDAY (6/30)

l The Farmer's Market begins at 9 a.m. on Saturdays, and ends around Oct. 6. Located on East Third Street in downtown Rushville, the hours are from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The market consists of homegrown produce and plants, craft vendors baked goods and more.

l Lewisville Lodge # 72 Chicken & Noodle Dinner, 5 to 7:30 p.m., Free will offering. Come join us at Lewisville Masonic Lodge # 72 and Eastern Star # 463.

l Alex's 4th Memorial Ride will begin with sign up from 10 a.m. to noon June 30 at the Rushville Eagles, 613 N. Morgan St. The ride will make stops at Bayshore, Greensburg; Batesville Eagles; Brookville VFW; and Hearthstone, Metamora. The cost is $15 per bike and $5 per rider. The event includes a dinner, auction and entertainment. All proceeds and donations go toward the Alex Workman Memorial Fund to help autistic children in the area.

l Knights of Columbus Chicken Fry Dinner, 5 to 8 p.m. Adults $9. Children $6. All you can eat dine in only. Carry outs available. Open to the public.

l The Rush County Girls Softball League will host a fundraiser from 4 to 9 p.m in the Community Building at the Rush County Fairgrounds. Dinner includes pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, baked beans, chips, applesauce, dessert and a drink. Tickets are $6 in advance and $7 at the door. Carry-out is available. Contact any coach, player or board member to purchase tickets.



JULY

SUNDAY (7/1)

l The Ashley Spurlin Day at Stagg's Restaurant and Dairy Treats. A portion of sales from this day will go to the Ashley Spurlin Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Rush County Community Foundation. This fund provides scholarships to a RCHS graduating senior attending Indiana State University. Please come and visit with the Ashley's family and friends and enjoy great food! Donations will also be accepted.

MONDAY (7/2)

l F.I.T. WALKABOUT/HIKE, 5:30 p.m., Discovery walk led by Mayor Pavey to the area south of Riverside Park. Park at Flatrock Grill. Organized by the Fitness Initiative Team of Rush County to get Rush County out and walking. Open to the public. Information: 932-5974.

WEDNESDAY (7/4)

l Independence Day

l The 29th Annual Fourth of July Parade will start at Third and Harrison streets at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 4. It will go north on Harrison Street to 11th Street, turn left and go to Sexton, where it will end in the fairgrounds. The parade will begin forming at 9 a.m. at Third and Morgan streets. No pre-registration is required to be in the parade and celebrate our heritage of freedom.

l The Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular, Freedom 2012, will begin at 10 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, in the field north of Rushville Elementary School. It will be choreographed to music created specifically for Rush County Fireworks and aired over radio station Classic Hits 90.7 FM WKPW, Knightstown. From 8 to 10 p.m., live music will be provided by Tyler Coons of Coons' Sound Unlimited on the parking lot north of Rushville Elementary School. No personal fireworks, such as sparklers, bottle rockets, firecrackers, etc., may be brought to the school. Donations welcome: Rush County Fireworks, P.O. Box 282, Rushville, IN 46173. This year's Annual Fourth of July festivities are again being organized by George and Sandra Coons. Information: 932-4989.

l 26th Annual Fourth of July Car Show by the Rushville Breakfast Optimist Club. Registration 8 a.m. in North Memorial Park, Rushville. Fee $15. Vendor space available. T-shirts. Rain or shine. Proceeds benefit Rush County youth programs. Music from the 50s and 60s with D.J. CWB. Lots of shade, playground. l The proposal for ambulance services prepared by Fire Chief Chuck Jenkins will be presented at 6 p.m., July 5, in City Council Chambers, 270 W. 15th St., Rushville, to the City Common Council, the County Council, the Rush County Commisioners and the Rushville Board of Public Works.

l The Rush County Youth Group Workcamp will be held July 8 to 14.

l The Rush County Chorale will present two performances of American music on Sunday, July 15 at the Laughlin Center for the Performing Arts. Performance times are 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $6 and are available from Chorale members or at the door on the day of the performances.

l The Danny E. and Barbara J. Gettinger and Family Day at Stagg's Restaurant

and Dairy Treats. A portion of sales from this day will go to the Danny E. and Barbara J. Gettinger and Family Scholarship Fund at the Rush County Community Foundation. This fund provides scholarships to graduates of RCHS who are studying the field of agriculture at a 2 or 4 year college, university, vocational school or ag short course. Please come and visit with the Gettinger Family and enjoy great food! Donations will also be accepted.

l Relay for Life of Rush County from 6 p.m. July 20 to 6 p.m. July 21, Memorial Park. This year's theme is Stars, Stripes, Relay as we honor our Veterans and raise funds for all the programs and research the American Cancer Society supports. Information: 765-969-8282.

SUNDAY (7/22)

l The Lora Brook Hatfield Day at Stagg's Restaurant and Dairy Treats. A portion of sales from that day will go to the Lora Brook Hatfield Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Rush County Community Foundation. This fund provides scholarships to graduating seniors from RCHS and Knightstown Community High School. Please come and visit with the Hatfield and Newton Families and enjoy great food! Donations will also be accepted.

l Brian's Cause opening ceremoinies at 9:30 a.m. on the Rush Memorial Hospital campus, 1300 N. Man St. The ÒTogether We CanÓ 2-mile-walk will follow with participants walking a two-mile loop through Rushville before returning to the RMH campus. On-site health fair from 10 a.m. to noon. MISCELLANEOUS

l Tox-away Days are the first Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to noon at Smiley Avenue. Join in making this a Clean, Green Rush County.

l The community food pantry, 109 East Third Street, Rushville is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Bring photo ID. Donations welcomed.

l Diabetes education classes are held from 5 to 7 p.m. on the first, second, and third Tuesday of each month at Rush Memorial Hospital Skills Lab, second floor. Cost, $10 per class with a $25 refund if all three classes are attended. Info: 765-932-7416 or dena.bills@rushmemorial.com

l Partners for a Healthy Rush County meets at 6 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month at the Boys & Girls Club. open to all interested businesses, organizations or individuals in Rush County.

l A dance at the Raleigh Community Club is held from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. every Saturday. Everyone welcomed.

l A parent support group meets at 6 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month in the Rushville Public Library meeting room. This group is for parents, guardians, caregivers or any family member of someone with mental or physical challenges. Those attending the group decide the topics.
