OCTOBER

FRIDAY (10/19)

l Dance for K to 6, 6 to 8 p.m., Boys & Girls Club of Rush County. $3 per person. DJ Kevin Green.

l One Voice Gospel Group will be having a ham & bean dinner from 5 to 7 p.m., at Second Baptist Church, 520 E. Seventh St., Rushville. Cost is $5. Menu includes ham & beans, cornbread, drinks and dessert. Dine in or carry out. Bring your bowls for carry out. Proceeds will benefit a trip to Lima Ohio Civic Center Gospel Fest where they will be singing Oct. 27.

l Girls Softball League benefit dance at Rushville K of C. 6 to 7:30 p.m., K to 6; 7:30 to 9 p.m., middle schoolers; 9 to 11:30 p.m., adults. $5 per person. Costume party with prizes. Silent auction. Concessions.

SATURDAY (10/20)

l Family-friendly country dance, 8 to 11 p.m. at the Manilla Lions Club on SR 44. Admission $5 for adults, 12 and under free.

l Third Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Zumba-Thon, 1 to 4 p.m, 306 N. Main St., Rushville. Zumba-Thon includes 25 plus vendors, food and fun. Cost is $20 for T-Shirt and Zumba party, $5 for just the party or $15 for just the T-Shirt. 100 percent of all proceeds go to Brian’s Cause. Information: Carrie Simmermon at 765-993-0117.

l The Boys & Girls Club of Rush County annual wine tasting and auction fundraising event begins at 6 p.m. at the 201 Building located at 201 North Main Street. A limited number of tickets are still available. l The Boys & Girls Club of Rush County will now be open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

l Work Day at the Rush County Historical Society’s Gowdy House Museum at 9 a.m. Help is needed in tearing down the backyard playhouse and cleaning up areas in the carriage house.

l Rushville K of C chicken fry, 5 to 8 p.m. Open to the public. $9 adults, $6 kids; $1 extra for all white meat. Dine-in or carry-out.

SUNDAY (10/21)

l Rushville Elks #1307 Sunday Brunch. Every Sunday’s from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., buffet style all you can eat. Meal comes with choice of tea, lemonade, orange juice or coffee. Open to the public. Senior discount. Reservations accepted.

MONDAY (10/22)

l The Rush County Chorale practices at 7 p.m. in the RCHS choir room. All current members, past members and new vocalists are invited to attend. The Chorale will present the winter program Dec. 1 and 2 at the Laughlin Center. Practices will continue at 7 p.m. Mondays.

TUESDAY (10/23)

l Main Street Christian Church, 615 N. Main Street, will be offering a free hot meal and fellowship with our friends in need on the last Tuesday of every month from 6 to 8 p.m. Carry-out available. Contact the church at 932-2997 for more info.

WEDNESDAY (10/24)

l Manilla Town & Country Homemakers Club will meet at 7 p.m. at the home of Teola Carmony. Phyllis White will serve as co-hostess. Nancy Kuhn will give devotions. Roll Call: What was the

last book you read? Kathy Wright will give a program, “Improving Your Health by Increasing Your Health Literacy.” Members are reminded to bring monetary donations for the food pantry.        

THURSDAY (10/25)

l Rush County Schools fall break Oct. 25 and 26. No school.

l Gib Young, well known Teddy Roosevelt interpreter, will present the program at the fall annual meeting of the Rush County Historical Society at 6 p.m. Nov. 1 at the 201 Building. Cost for the dinner and program is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. Reservations must be made by Oct. 25 to Phyllis Fecher, 932-1810 or pfecher@frontier.com.

SATURDAY (10/27)

l Halloween Bash, 8 p.m. to midnight at the American Legion in Rushville. All proceeds go to Rush County Rider’s Toys for Tots. Join in karaoke, dancing, a costume contest and a live auction.

l Skylar’s Journey Costume Party from 6 to 9 p.m. for kids and until ? for adults at the Knights of Columbus. Cover charge is free-will donation. All proceeds going to Skylar’s Journey. Music, games, snacks, lemonade, water provided. Soft and hard drinks can be purchased. Drawing for $2,500 travel gift certificate. Drawing tickets $5 each or 5 for $20. l 11th Annual Halloween Costume Parade at the Rush County Fairgrounds Livestock Pavilion. Sign ups begin at 5:30 p.m. with the parade and judging beginning at 6 p.m. For all ages (adults too!) Treat bags and prize for each child. Sponsored by City of Rushville, Parks & Recreation Department and the Rush County F.O.P.

l 6th Annual St. Mary School 5K Run/Walk, 8:30 a.m., Nov. 3., Benjamin Rush Middle School, 1601 N. Sexton St., Rushville. Late registration 7:45 to 8:30 a.m. $15 adults, $10 under 18. Registration received after Oct. 6 not guaranteed shirt. Children’s races for sixth grade and under will be held at BRMS track. Awards and prizes. Donations accepted for St. Mary Food Pantry. l Rush County Youth Rally at 3 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 426 N. Morgan St., Rushville. Rally is for Senior High youth. Please bring a canned food donation. Supper is provided.

l Pancake Breakfast, 6:30 to 10 a.m., Masonic Lodge. Every other month the Masonic Lodge hosts an all you can eat pancake breakfast. The cost is $5. Sausage, eggs and pancakes will be served. This event is sponsored by Phoenix Lodge # 62 F&AM and Martha Poe OES.

MISCELLANEOUS

l Tox-away Days are the first Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to noon at Smiley Avenue. Join in making this a Clean, Green Rush County.

l The Boys & Girls Club of Rush County will now be open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

l The community food pantry, 109 East Third Street, Rushville is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Bring photo ID. Donations welcomed.

l Alcoholics Anonymous meets each Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown. Use the east entrance at the corner of Adams and Locust streets. Information: 765-313-1637.

l A dance at the Raleigh Community Club is held from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. every Saturday. Everyone welcomed.

l Rush County Victims Assistance, Inc. has its monthly meeting on the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m. For location contact the office at 938-1555. The public always is invited. Info: Barbara Kuhn at 938-1555.

l A parent support group meets at 6 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month in the Rushville Public Library meeting room. This group is for parents, guardians, caregivers or any family member of someone with mental or physical challenges. Those attending the group decide the topics.     l St. Mary Catholic School annual Green and White Gala.  The Gala is an opportunity to celebrate St. Mary School. Guest speaker will be John Green (SMS 1990 graduate), the son of Daniel and the late Elizabeth “Betty” Green. All are welcome to attend.
