OCTOBER

FRIDAY (10/12)

l Don’t miss the fun, food and family time at the Milroy School Fall Festival from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 12. Activities include a hog roast, the County Store, children’s games, a raffle and a silent and live Auction. Tickets for the meal are $7 for adults and $4 for children. Tickets are available at the door Oct. 12. This annual Fall Festival is Milroy’s only fundraiser so come out and support Milroy Elementary School, The new Milroy School is located at 300 N. Walnut, Milroy.

l Friends of the Greensburg Public Library annual Fall Book Sale, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 12; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 13 and 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 14 in the meeting room of the library, 1110 E. Main St., Greensburg. Information: 812-663-2826.

SATURDAY (10/13)

l Fish Fry held by the Anderson Township Volunteer Fire Department, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the fire station, 214 W. Main Street. Menu includes: Fish or Tenderloin, onion rings or french fries, drinks and dessert. Free willing offering will be gratefully accepted. Carry-outs available. Proceeds will help in the purchase of new extraction equipment. Commemorative helmet will also be raffled.

l Chicken Fry from 4 to 8 p.m. at Rushville Elk’s Lodge for Boys Scout Troop 27, St. Paul’s Church. Menu features chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, salad bar, drinks and dessert. Carry-outs available. Advance tickets $8 adults and kids 5-10 years $6. Five and under eat free. Advance tickets from Troop 27 members or fliers placed about town for discount. Tickets at door $10 adults/$8 kids 5-10.

l The Boys & Girls Club of Rush County will now be open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SUNDAY (10/14)

l Rushville Elks #1307 Sunday Brunch. The Elks is trying something new! Every Sunday’s from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., buffet style all you can eat with bagels, eggs, bacon, sausage, shredded has browns, pancakes (with fruit available) and even a manned omelet station! Meal comes with choice of tea, lemonade, orange juice or coffee. Open to the public. Senior discount. Reservations accepted.

l Big Flatrock Christian Church would like to invite everyone to their annual Homecoming Celebration/Knowles Shaw Day at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 14. Special guest bringing the message will be Mike Whitacre. Special music will be by Eddie Thompson. Church memorabilia will also be on display. There will be a pitch in dinner at noon. Please bring a well filled basket and share our special day with us. MONDAY (10/15)

l All Rush County vocalists: The Rush County Chorale practices at 7 p.m. in the RCHS choir room. All current members, past members and new vocalists are invited to attend. The Chorale will present the winter program on Dec. 1 and 2 at the Laughlin Center for the Performing Arts. Practices will continue at 7 p.m. on Mondays.

FRIDAY (10/19)

l Dance for elementary school age children, 6 to 8 p.m., Boys & Girls Club of Rush County. $3 per person. D.J. Kevin Green. Proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Club.

l One Voice Gospel Group will be having a ham & bean dinner from 5 to 7 p.m., at Second Baptist Church, 525 E. Seventh St., Rushville. Cost is $5. Menu includes Ham & beans, cornbread, drinks and dessert. Dine in or carry out. Please bring your bowls for carryout. Proceeds will benefit a trip to Lima Ohio Civic Center Gospel Fest later this month.

SATURDAY (10/20)

l There will be a family friendly country dance at the Manilla Lions Club on St. Rd. 44. Line dances, couples dances, and lessons from 8 to 11 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, 12 and under free. Information can be found on the Raleigh Country Line Dance facebook page.

l Third Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Zumba-Thon, 1 to 4 p.m., Oct. 20, 306 N. Main St., Rushville. Zumba-Thon includes 25 plus vendors, food and fun. Cost is $20 for T-Shirt and Zumba party, $5 for just the party or $15 for just the T-Shirt. 100 percent of all proceeds go to Brian’s Cause. Information: Carrie Simmermon at 765-993-0117.

l The annual Boys & Girls Club of Rush County annual wine tasting and auction fundraising event begins at 6 p.m. at the 201 Building located at 201 North Main Street. A limited number of tickets are still available. l The Manilla Town & Country Homemakers Club will meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at the home of Teola Carmony. Phyllis White will serve as Co-hostess. Nancy Kuhn will give devotions. Roll Call: What was the

last book you read? Kathy Wright will give a program entitled, “Improving Your Health by Increasing Your Health Literacy.” Members are reminded to bring monetary donations for the food pantry.

l Rush County Schools Fall Break Oct. 25 and 26. No school.

SATURDAY (10/27)

l Halloween Bash, 8 p.m. to midnight at the American Legion in Rushville. All proceeds go to Rush County Rider’s Toys for Tots. Join in karaoke, dancing, a costume contest and a live auction.

l The Boys & Girls Club of Rush County will now be open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

l Skylar’s Journey Costume Party from 6 to 9 p.m. for kids and until ? for adults at the Knights of Columbus. Cover charge is free will donation. All proceeds going to

Treat bags and prize for each child. Sponsored by City of Rushville, Parks & Recreation Department and the Rush County F.O.P.

l 6th Annual St. Mary School 5K Run/Walk, 8:30 a.m., Nov. 3., Benjamin Rush Middle School, 1601 N. Sexton St., Rushville. Late registration 7:45 to 8:30 a.m. $15 adults, $10 under 18. Registration received after Oct. 6 not guaranteed shirt. Children’s races for sixth grade and under will be held at BRMS track. Awards and prizes. Donations accepted for St. Mary Food Pantry. l Pancake Breakfast, 6:30 to 10 a.m., Masonic Lodge. Every other month the Masonic Lodge hosts an all you can eat pancake breakfast. The cost is $5. Sausage, eggs and pancakes will be served. This event is sponsored by Phoenix Lodge # 62 F&AM and Martha Poe OES.

l The community food pantry, 109 East Third Street, Rushville is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Bring photo ID. Donations welcomed.

l Alcoholics Anonymous meets each Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown. Use the east entrance at the corner of Adams and Locust streets. Information: 765-313-1637.

l A parent support group meets at 6 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month in the Rushville Public Library meeting room. This group is for parents, guardians, caregivers or any family member of someone with mental or physical challenges. Those attending the group decide the topics.     l St. Mary Catholic School annual Green and White Gala.  The Gala is an opportunity to celebrate St. Mary School. Guest speaker will be John Green (SMS 1990 graduate), the son of Daniel and the late Elizabeth “Betty” Green. All are welcome to attend.
